FAQ
It's a Blue Label Telecoms powered service that allows qualified customers the chance to take out a Prepaid Electricity advance on their meter, with the ability to pay it back at a later stage. Any outstanding advances will automatically be deducted from the next recharge on your meter.
Only qualifying customers are eligible according to the following basic criteria which are used to calculate your MAL (maximum advance limit). This is based on your overall spend on Blu Approved products.
• User/s have been transacting for at least the last 3 months consuming Blu Approved products.
• User/s have a minimum average monthly transaction value of R20 across their electricity voucher spend.
• User/s have a monthly top up frequency greater than at least 2 transactions.
The advance amount is uniquely calculated for each individual who is qualified to use the service. The following denominations are currently available for prepaid electricity advances: R20, R30, R50 and R100 (inclusive of associated service fees).
The more you use the BluAdvance service and make timeous repayments, the more your MAL (maximum advance limit) will increase.
The fee charged per advance so we can give the customer access the service - The fee is only applicable if the customer chooses to take a BluAdvance. The fee is currently set at R5 per R50 advance:
R50 advance or lower - R5 service fee
R51 to R100 advance - R10 service fee
If you have an outstanding debt with a particular Municipality - They have most likely tried to recoup that from your advance.
Simply top up your meter via any Blu Approved channel. Any outstanding advances will automatically be deducted from the next recharge on your meter. Once your outstanding advance is repaid in full you will become eligible to take another advance.
Only one advance may be taken at a time. You will need to repay the advance in full before you will become eligible to take another advance.
Someone else in your household may have an outstanding advance associated with your meter. Any top up will first be used to repay outstanding BluAdvance amounts associated with that meter. Older advances will be repaid first, regardless of who took the advance. All outstanding advance amounts need to be repaid before an electricity token will be issued.
There are two possible reasons for this:
1. You can only take out one advance at at time. Any outstanding advances need to be repaid in full before you can take a new one.
2. You are no longer eligible for the BluAdvance service:
a. You have not been making regular transactions with your cellphone number and are therefore no longer eligible. Refer to Question 2 - How do I become eligible for BluAdvance?
b. You defaulted on repayment of a previous advance and are no longer eligible for the BluAdvance service.
This may be the result of connectivity issues with municipal systems, or with the BluAdvance service itself.
